Stellaris research is a slow, semi-random card draw: each field offers a handful of options, and the tech you want may not appear for a while. The console gives you three levers — research a single technology, research everything, or re-roll the options on offer. First, open the command console (~).
Research a single technology
Use research_technology with the technology's ID. For example, to instantly finish Adaptive Bureaucracy:
Every technology ID is listed on the Stellaris technology list — search it for the tech you want and copy its ID into the command. Full syntax lives on the research_technology command page.
Research the entire tech tree
To skip research altogether, research_all_technologies completes every non-repeatable technology at once:
It takes two optional arguments. Passing 1 0 also unlocks crisis and space-creature technologies that the base command leaves out:
Details and the argument breakdown are on the research_all_technologies command page.
Re-roll your research options
If you don't want to hand yourself a tech but the option you need hasn't come up, techupdate re-rolls the choices currently available in each research area:
See the techupdate command page for more.
Tips
- Technology IDs always start with
tech_. If a command does nothing, double-check the ID against the technology list. research_all_technologiesis a big jump — it can trigger mid-game events and crises tuned to your tech level, so save first.- As with all cheats, research commands disable achievements for the session and don't work in Ironman.
